About FAS
About the Foundation for American Service
Mission
The Foundation for American Service advances economic mobility and workforce stability for veterans, essential workers, public-service professionals and financially vulnerable working households through financial capability education, workforce development, resource navigation and targeted hardship assistance.
Vision
A nation where everyone who serves their community or country has the financial knowledge, resources and support they need to achieve lasting stability, and where no one who serves faces a financial crisis without a clear, dignified path forward.
Statement of need
Many working households can manage a steady budget but cannot absorb a sudden expense. National data show how common that gap is:
Source: Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households in 2025, published May 2026. Findings are from the Survey of Household Economics and Decisionmaking, conducted in October 2025 among nearly 13,000 U.S. adults. The first two figures are the complement of the reported 63% (would cover a $400 expense with cash or its equivalent) and 73% (doing at least okay financially).
A car repair, a medical bill or a utility shutoff can lead to missed work, late fees and debt that takes years to clear. Shift schedules and demanding jobs make it hard to find financial education and help when it’s needed most. FAS combines practical education with responsible, need-based assistance to close that gap.
