Service members: list base pay and allowances separately. Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) and Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) are not taxed, so read your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) line by line.
Two-income households: combine only the money you both agree goes to shared costs.
